What is the Course about?

TV and media production is the application of digital technology to the production of video and audio media in the form of DVD, TV, web development, music and film. The media landscape has changed significantly in recent years and increasingly personnel working across the media spectrum are required to have competency in a range of areas such as design, production, content creation, editing and management skills. 

This four-year honours degree programme offers practical hands-on experience for students with access to high-quality production facilities including a dedicated TV and audio studio and editing suite with all of the latest editing and animation software. 

The practical focus of the programme is reflected in the modules which includes: Sound Design, Scriptwriting, TV Production, Light and Sound, Production Management, Web Technology, Media Technology, Media Law and Enterprise, Video Production, Visual Culture and Graphics and Animation.

What follow-on study opportunities are available?

Graduates of this programme will be eligible to progress to postgraduate study at either Masters or Doctoral level.

What will I be able to do when I finish the course?

Graduates of this programme will be equipped to:

  • Design content for interactive websites;
  • Research, plan and manage TV and film productions;
  • Create motion graphics and visual effects to professional broadcast standard;
  • Understand the legal requirements associated with commission/broadcast programmes.

The range of career options open to graduates of this programme is extensive and includes roles such as Production Manager, Media Content Researcher, Director/Producer for TV, Web Developer or Media Entrepreneur. 

What are the minimum entry requirements?

Leaving Certificate:

  • 6 subjects with at least 2 subjects at Higher Level Grade H5 or better.
  • 4 subjects at Ordinary Level Grade O6 or Higher Level Grade H7.

Subjects required:

  • English or Irish at Ordinary Level Grade O6 or Higher Level Grade H7 or better.
  • Mathematics at Ordinary Level Grade O6 or Higher Level Grade H7 or better.

Graduates with a relevant Ordinary Degree are eligible to enter Year 4 and graduates with a relevant Higher Certificate are eligible to enter Year 3.

Mature applicants will be assessed on an individual basis and may be interviewed.
