What is the Course about?

TV and media production is the application of digital technology to the production of video and audio media in the form of DVD, TV, web development, music and film. The media landscape has changed completely in recent years and, increasingly, personnel working across the media spectrum are required to have competency in a range of areas such as design, production, content creation, editing and management skills.


This three-year degree programme offers an extensive hands-on production element. More than 60% of student contact time is practical, using our high-quality production facilities including a dedicated TV and audio studio and editing suite boasting all of the latest editing and animation software.


The practical focus of this programme is reflected in its modules, which includes: Sound Design and Scriptwriting, TV Production, Light and Sound, Production Management, Web Technology and Graphics and Animation.

What follow-on study opportunities are available?

Graduates of this programme will be eligible to progress to Year 4 of the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in TV and Media Production (CW578) at IT Carlow.

What will I be able to do when I finish the course?

Graduates of this programme will be equipped to:

  • Develop programme content for websites;
  • Develop programme outlines for broadcast and short films for broadcast and web publication;
  • Research, plan and manage TV and film productions;
  • Understand the legal requirements associated with commissioned/broadcast programmes.

The range of career options open to graduates of this programme is extensive and includes roles such as: Media Content Researcher, Film or TV Production Team Member, Web Developer, Media Entrepreneur or Director/Producer.
 

What are the minimum entry requirements?

Leaving Certificate:

  • 5 subjects at Ordinary Level Grade O6 or Higher Level Grade H7 or better.

Subjects required:

  • English or Irish at Ordinary Level Grade O6 or Higher Level Grade H7 or better.
  • Mathematics at Ordinary Level Grade O6 or Higher Level Grade H7 or better.


Mature applicants will be assessed on an individual basis and may be interviewed.
